Ed was born in 1960 in St. Helens, Oregon and grew up on a small cow-calf farm in Scholls, Oregon. He was an active 4-H and FFA member and joined the Grange at age 14. Ed has three children and 3 grandchildren.
He has held leadership positions at all levels of the Grange including four years as the Oregon State Grange President, taught leadership and membership development for six years at the National Grange and served eight years as the National President. He has belonged to a variety of other organizations, including the Elks, Kiwanis, 501(c)3 and 4 boards as well as recreational groups and has held leadership positions in many of them.
Ed fell in love with public speaking as a freshman in high school and enjoys speaking to both large and small audiences in an interactive way. He began to seriously write in the late 1990's and has published three books as of January of 2021.

Prior to 1996 his jobs were in automotive repair, janitorial, and custom farming.
